Really cool spot. No matter where I go in south beach, I end up here. Good music, good service, good beer. I haven't eaten here just yet. Or had a cocktail. Only just to chill, listen to music, check out the secene and have a beer. So worth it though.

The best pub in Miami,,hell, the best pib period! Great food and crowd. the staff is A++++++!!!!!. I love this place! Best Reuben sandwich on the planet. My wife and I order it so often, the started calling us "The Ruebens!" A "must go" when you visit Miami Beach.

This is place is just an average sports bar with an Irish-ish decor. I went there with a good friend of mine because after a long day of work we were craving some cold beer and chicken wings. It was Memorial weekend and we were expecting a larger crowd but that was not the case, fine with me. The waitress was very nice, I must say this, always making sure we were fine. She mentioned that we just missed Happy Hour (of course, just my luck!) so instead we ordered 2 pitchers of Coors light, based on price and tap availability, but it was good! In fact perfect for this sticky weather. We also ordered some chicken wings, and I have to say these were just ok, just ok! and we wanted blue cheese to go with them and it was very runny and tasted like it was mixed with buttermilk or something like that, it wasn't thick at all, but the celery and carrots were nice and crispy fresh, I never eat those but this time I did. The French fries were fresh cut, not frozen. Also we got our dinner and a "show" haha, we were eating our food and some guys showed up and started bothering some ladies sitting at the bar but this was quickly taken care of by security, it was very entertaining :P , perfect ending of my night. So all in all, I think I will give them another chance, but I would go only to have a couple of beers and some appetizers, that's all.

It's cute and it served its purpose. It was a group of us that were at the parade. We wanted alcoholic beverages and one of us knew of this place. So, we came here. What stood-out the most to me was their bar. It's very nice, large and impressive. Yeah, if I'm close by in the future I'd come here again. The fact that the bartender and the waitress each knew about a drink that not even I have ever heard of was very impressive. That drink is the Singapore Spring.

For an Irish pub on the beach this is realistically the only spot. If you fancy north beach than you can go to Normans but that's about it.

We love this place! The food is outstanding - try the Ruben! And the beer is always cold. We go after being at the beach and it never lets us down. Very casual & comfortable.

I like visiting this place, which is off the main Ocean Drive strip by a couple of blocks. As such, it's less touristy, and more local. I've been here three times in the last year or so. It's a true Irish bar, right down to the soccer TV coverage. The food is always very tasty, and the beer is always cold. They have a good selection of beers, too. I love that I can get some of my favorite German beers in a bottle. And, yes, they pour a good Guinness as well. I try to visit this place when I'm in South Beach, and encourage you to do the same.

The playwright pub is the best place to come watch futbol, great 2 for 1 happy hour between mon-fri. Matt always takes care of you, if not, Elza will make sure you're not thirsty during happy hour.

Fun place, service kind of stunk being an empty bar.

Typical restaurant and bar. We had a few beers here and some food. The beer was moderately priced with nothing crazy on tap The food was moderately priced and was surprisingly better than expected. Shepards pie (which 3 of us got) was actually quite tasty and not lava temperature which is good. Two person got burgers and said they were slightly overcooked but not bad. A cheesesteak that was a bit dry but good nonetheless. Fish and chips a little greasy but expected. Overall not a terrible decision but i think you could find better in the area

Came here just prior to happy hour and found the bartendress to be exceptionally friendly, engaging, and the atmosphere to be very welcoming. Stayed for about 4 hours and thought the clientele was pretty relaxed as well. Good drinks, but didn't try the food.

Went here for lunch with my girlfriend. Food was good .had a Shepherd pie. Matt was my server. He was friendly. Was not very busy during day. However I imagine this place would be busy at night.

Tony and Alex are amazing bartenders! They took care of us for more than two hours and were very attentive from the second we walked in. The music is more of a hip hop vibe than Irish though. I enjoyed it, but it's not Irish like you may think. It's real South Beach living!!!! Go here!!!!!!!!! Amazing atmosphere!!!!

The food was great, and the beer was the coldest in town -- BUT right after they set down my plate, they set down a dirty ashtray right near my plate. When I complained the bartender told me that they allowed smoking. When I asked if he knew that this was against FL State Law for places that sell food, the bartender replied with "I'm sure you are going to tell me." His attitude was very rude. As I left, the bouncer told me that they sometimes do not permit smoking during the day, but at night they permit it. I checked, and this clearly violates the law. I went to the Playwright because I regard it as a cut above the local dives, but they proved me wrong. Goodbye forever and please expect to hear more about your disregard of the smoking law, passed by a 71% majority at the polls. FYI, I am not blaming the employees who are merely trying to make a living, but I am hoping the owner will re-evaluate the policy, and that the State regulators will start enforcing the law.

This will forever be one of my all time favorite Irish Pubs, great atmosphere amazing people and stellar service by most all the employees. I have been coming here for years, they've since made some renovations that have enhanced the overall experience here. I'll highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice above average Irish Sports Bar.

Nice, chill spot in the middle of Sobe. Very smoky inside but plenty spacious and lots of seating for your party to chill. The music is almost too loud for conversation (but not quite). As long as you don't mind your clothes smelling like cigarette smoke, Playwright is a good place to stop for a drink on Washington.

  • Jonah K.

If this were an Irish pub in another city it would be rated much lower, but in Miami we have zero decent Irish pubs. This is one of the better ones, but the Guiness is not very good, and the food is just OK. The service and staff are excellent and attentive, the location is great. I'll be back, but I wish we had more alternatives.

Great service. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Restrooms were last updated in 1980. Otherwise nice stop off Ocean Blvd.

Lunch on south beach can be a challenging time. Do I want to overpay for meh food? Do I want to go really really cheap and eat like 1 slice of questionable pizza? Now I don't have to make that decision anymore. Since I started eating lunch at the Playwright all is well in the world! I can call, place an order to pick up and usually by the time I walk down there it's ready and waiting for me. I am always greeted by their friendly bar staff and the food is delicious! Turkey club, California chicken sandwich, the burger, all delicious! Freshly prepared and ready for lunch in no time flat. Thank you Playwright, you make lunch a little less painful!

  • Scott D.

Beer was really cheap for the area and service pretty good. Got the steak sandwich which was delicious. Gets the 5 stars for being a pretty authentic Irish bar which is rare to come by in the States.

Awesome service, food, and atmosphere. Was here during final four games, and it wasn't too crowded. Had a great waitress. Ordered the hamburger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms, and it was very good. About $30 for two draft beers and the burger. Plenty of TV's to view your favorite sports event.

  • Franklin M.

This is a very spacious dark bar with a nice beer selection. The only reason I chose to come here is because it was raining pretty hard outside. This was somewhat of a plus to sneak into this cool place and relax while the rain passed. They have plenty of TVs and a pool table.

  • Kalvin K.

Happy hour is from 4-7pm and it is simply amazing. The drinks are two for one but that's not the best deal in my opinion. They have tremendous bar food available for half price. It's definitely the best chicken wings I have ever had a bar. My coworker and I had a total bill of $38 for about an hour and a half worth of time at the bad (five pool games). Highly recommended, looking forward to coming back.

Been here a few times. The drinks are good the food is okay. The last time I came will be the last time I spend money in here. I got completely turned off. This bar has a jute box for the customers to play music. Apparently NOT! I have the app for the jute box and paid $5 to play music. The $5 gave me about 14 credits I figure I can use the credits over time. I played two songs. When my first song came on, within a second the two songs got skipped. I understand with the jute box some locations allow people to skip songs, but your songs eventually get played. But it does not skip after the song started to play. So, inquired with the waitress, maybe something was wrong with the jute box. I asked her what happened she said the bartender did not feel like listening to the songs and skipped it. I was appalled. Since when? I played Britney Spears and The Cranberries. Both are 3-4 minute songs and pretty popular. I understand not everyone likes it but that's what the jute box is for, costumers to play what they like. Not for bartenders to decided what song gets played or not. She then offers me a $1 back for my songs. Lol I thought it was pretty funny because I spend $5 play music here over time, I figured a few months and I get back a $1. I thought it was rude and inconsiderate for the bartender to skip my songs because he doesn't feel like listening to the song. If that is the case don't work there or get rid of the jute box and play only what you like. Besides that one incident the vibe is good, the drinks are good and the food is okay. I just do not like to be disrespected so my money will not be spent there. I will be getting water if my friends truly want to go there.

Dropped in The Playwright on St. Paddy's Day! Still early evening and my friend and I beers a couple cold beers and split a Reuben Sandwich and made friends with the people next to us. That was great but they really need to make sure the band does a sound check so it sounds better and crowd can enjoy it. Don't worry we'll be back. :)

NPS = 5 Meh...its an Irish pub. Nothing spectacular. The special thing about it is that it is located right in the heart of South Beach. When you're in the beach and are in the mood to do something chill, this is the place to go. Now that "Chalk" right across the street has closed down, I guess this bar is one of the few chill/none-clubby things to on South Beach. There is a massive projector where you can watch games. There is also a pool table and sadly I haven't tried any food here. The prices of drinks are the same as anywhere else...nothing special. Place is just...average.

  • Ash T.

Cool laid back vibe, especially considering it's in south beach. Stopped in here some Irish food with my boyfriend. The food was great, but since it was 2 for 1 happy hour and my boyfriend wanted a beer I decided to try some of his second one. However, when we got the bill we were charged for two- apparently my trying the beer made it ineligible as a 2 for 1. That wouldn't have been so bad, except that the staff were weirdly rude about it. Probably won't go back.

It's an Irish pub, and all my Irish (as in, from Ireland) friends usually meet there, especially for the "big matches" over there. Tasty pub food, reasonable prices, friendly service. Last time I was there (Feb 2015) parking was a bit of a hassle, so I suggest calling ahead for recommendations as to where to park if you're using a car. Parking on South Beach can be a complete rip-off. I read a negative review here that suggested that the staff stole credit cards. I'd like to post a completely opposite POV. I lost my credit card in Feb and was sure that the last place I'd used it at was the Playwright. I called them to see if they had found it, and someone from the bar staff spent several minutes looking through all the credit cards left behind by customers. Which says something about the customers, eh? I found my credit card the next day under my desk. Which says something about me, too!

Playwright Irish Pub was a great place to find in the midst of the hustle on Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road. I visited it a couple of times during my trip, and Matt, the bartender, provided exceptional service and good conversation. The beer list was typical for an Irish pub (a few IPAs), and the food was delicious. If you're looking for a more relaxing night or a good lunch spot, then here is your place.

Derive was excellent, our drinks never went empty and she was on top of everything despite being the only one working the seating area. We ate breakfast and the door was amazing. Would highly recommend this place.

Came in around 7:00 it was quiet mostly people sitting at the bar watching the game. Had the Baked Mac+Cheese which was delish.. The waitress was not so attentive to us though .. But over all it's a chill laid back place to be.

Gotta tell you I'm picky. Service was exemplary sitting at the bar and the potato leek soup hit the spot. A pool table too!

I suppose the idea of an Irish Pub in South Beach was a bad one from the get-go... I walked in, sat at the bar, and a Cuban bartender asked me what I wanted. I asked for Jameson on the rocks. She told me, "I'm sorry, we just ran out of Jameson." I said, "this is an Irish Pub and you ran out of Jameson?" She then said to me, "if you can wait five minutes, I will send someone to the liquor store to buy a bottle." At this point, I had to decide if I should run like Hell or wait a few minutes. Against my better judgment, I waited. The Jameson did arrive pretty quickly. I then ordered a chicken Ceasar salad. I couldn't find the lettuce! It was one seared chicken breast on a few leafs of a Romaine... Service was really not very good. Then, the check comes with the tip already included--18%! I crossed it out and reduced it to a generous 15% and won't be going back!

A break from the high prices of SouthBeach! We were looking for a sports bar in South Beach to watch the final four. We stumbled on the playwright Irish Pub and it was a nice find. It was certainly not the type of bar you find in South Beach. Very North East oaky and Dark. They had a good assortment of drafts that were not overpriced a Great pitcher special Coors light $11.00! We ordered the wings and found them to be very good lightly fried and crisp. They had a good hot sauce as well. It is a nice change from the trendy bars.

There for happy hour after arriving in Miami Beach. Smoking allowed in all the bars in FL. But not that bad because the bar was mostly empty. Great service from the bartendress who was on OT but loving it. She took great care of us and made recommendations. Can't remember her name but she was from South America. Maybe Daniella????? Anyway she could pour a Guinness and a mixed drink. Food was good for the aps we ordered. Off the beaten path-i.e. beach area but a great place to go to avoid the crowds.

To keep it simple: cool place, decent food, nice beer selection, good prices, great staff. As a soccer fan, it's great to have a place to catch matches and have a few drinks within walking distance from my door. It's laid back atmosphere is certainly appreciated as well.

Looking for a place to enjoy watching a college football game, we decided to check this place out. Score......huge big screen projector TV towards the back of the restaurant/ bar. Of course they had many TVs throughout. Awesome, we grab some bar stools close to the big screen and knew we had picked a great place to watch the game. Our bartender was excellent. He had the sweetest Irish accent and just so friendly and funny. He changed a couple of channels on different TVs for us, never let our pitcher of beer run out. We ordered some wings and fries to munch down on during the game. The wings are very very good here. I like my wings naked and this is exactly what they were. A bit spicy but far from hot. Fries were good, ask for some ranch dressing and dip them, yep no complaints. Local neighborhood hangout with some cool people hangin out, a few tourist idiots but hey we are on the beach. So glad we came here as I am sure we will visit again and again. They had good prices on food, very fair, with some good beer specials throughout the week. Also they serve breakfast and what a great deal. I glanced through the menu and they had very nice breakfast selections. Also they had Sheppard's Pie, looked amazing. Looking forward to trying it next time. This Irish delight is clean, the bathrooms were spotless, with excellent service. Yet another great local find. Awesome game, good food, good beer, good service, what more can you ask for. See you again very soon!

This place is quite the diamond in the rough in the South Beach area. Its not a douchey club, the prices arent astronomic, its a soccer bar, and they have REAL beer on tap. I was here on a weekend trip for the Chelsea USA tour..so I ended up coming here a few times with friends. The Playwright is your typical Irish style pub. As I said before it doesnt get the douche jersey shore south crowd like the rest of South Beach. The prices arent quite as high as the rest of the area. I wouldnt call it cheap, but its reasonable at least. They promote themselves as a soccer bar...while I havent been here for an actual game this was where all of the Chelsea supporters met for pregame activities that weekend. So it had a great atmosphere. Moving on to the food and drink... especially the drink because they actually have more than just crap on tap. I was very surprised to see that most places in Miami dont have anything local (there isnt anything local I came to find out) or craft beer on tap. The playwright didnt have much in terms of craft beer but they did have a good amount of nice European imports on tap and in bottle. The food is also very tasty..especially the mussels! I probably wont be back to Miami, but if I somehow end up coming back I will be going here for sure.

  • Steve P.

I was shocked to find a place like this so close to South Beach. I am a big beer fan and had always thought Florida did not have many taps due to heat/cost to maintain a keg room. Playwright had a great import tap selection. I ended up at Playwrights 2 nights in a row. I was in MIA for the Chelsea USA Tour and Playwright was the home bar for the supporters. The staff was super friendly and very helpful in identifying their favorite menu items. I sampled the muscles and shepherds pie... was not let down by either of them! I was a little shocked to see an 18% gratuity added to my friends bill. Two of mine did not have it. I can understand it though, being located where it is, I have a feeling many customers do not tip. As a server I would get ticked off making $2.50 an hour and only having 50% of my customers tip... As someone previously said, if you're in the area long enough and sick of touristy stuff, go to Playwrights. My group wanted to be as far from the touristy stuff as possible. Walking around at night only confirms Playwrights is not even close to touristy. It was a great escape from MIA as a whole. Also, this restaurant is on the dining rewards program, so anyone who wants frequent flier miles from a late night bar...

Fist time coming to this place, was on St. Patrick's day. I had a very good experience here though I didn't really stay for long. I had the green beer pitcher, with the typical corn beef and cabbage along with home style boiled potatoes. Everything was really good and very fresh, the service was fast even though the place was booming with people from all over the place due to the infamous spring breakers from Europe and all over the world to be exact. My waitress who i cannot remember her name, all i know is that she was a woman, she came and served the food in a timely matter and was very helpful and in getting me in and out. They had a live band playing but i wasn't digging the music too much, U2 was playing in the background which was great while i was having my beer and my typical Irish meal.

Wings are fantastic as well as the Chicken Spring Rolls. Locals type pub where everyone knows your name. Great bartenders and servers.

  • Lynn C.

18% service charge automatically tacked onto your bill is a little weird for me at an irish bar...especially when our group was less than 6 people. This place is a great sports bar with a giant tv and lots of small screens playing different games. The pitcher prices are reasonable, the food is okay. I didnt like the potato skin, but the chicken tender was delicious. It's not somewhere i'd go to while visiting South Beach, but if you're in the area long enough and you're sick of the touristy places along washington ave and ocean drive, then this might be a place for you to kick back and relax while watching basketball game.

Horrible spot with roaches! :/ 0 stars. The people that work there are very disrespectful. It's not clean. There are roaches everywhere. All I can say is don't go there cause it's disgusting. If you do go there expect to see a roach leg in your food or drink. And good luck it's a $hit hole!

Great casual place to kick back and watch some games. Reminds of Northeast bars. No dress code, no cover ..no stress, no fuss :-)

We went down to South Beach and wanted a sports bar atmosphere as it is the BCS championship weekend. Atmosphere was really nice and loved the look and feel of the bar. No hostess so you are on your own when finding a table. They were jam packed and though our waitress was nice it took her FOREVER to greet us and then forever to get our drinks and another forever for our food! We figured it would take time as it was so busy but she was not very attentive. Food was ok, I got the burger which I asked to be cooked medium and it was well done but didn't complain bc I new it would take an easy 30 minutes to get another one. Might be better in a slower weekend.

THis has been my local spot since I moved here 8 years ago... If you ever saw the show Cheers filmed in BOSTON WHOOP WHOOP!!! This is that place... You wanna go where everyone knows your name... Right now is my favorite time of the year since it's football season and they have every game! Good food, good prices and that Happy Hour is GREAT!!! Gio see for yourself!!!

Want a taste of what a typical dublin pub feels like? Come here. About €15 for 2 pints. Just like the rip off pubs at home!

Love the atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food was better than average pub faire! I forgot that they still allow smoking in Florida bars, so if it bothers you, then you might want to find an exclusive restaurant - I think we take it for granted in the Northern states (sorry smokers!) Right off the street, this just looks cool!! I would definitely return again if I was in South Beach!

  • Alaina L.

I'd like to see a better beer selection. But I've come to expect this from most places in Miami. It's an Irish pub. Pretty self explanatory. There's a pool table, lots of comfy booths & no cover. It's a nice local spot for pre-gaming or watching your fave footie (soccer) teams on the telly...oops that's British slang, right? Oh well. You get the point. Go Arsenal!

2 for 1 beers-any kind, during happy hour....in south beach you have to jump on those kind of deals! Casual place, friendly staff and patrons. There is a pool table and a juke box. They have great food, especially the wings. Been stopping in here for years.

I really enjoy this place when I want to step out of the sun and relax for a drink, or meet up with friends for a delicious meal and good music when the sun goes down. Definitely a stop you shouldn't miss making when on South Beach.

Stopped by yesterday to watch the Roma soccer game with my father. It is a good sized location that really gives you that "In Ireland feeling". The service & drink specials were great - everything an Irish pub should be. I eat the spicy chicken wrap & was satisfied.

The staff was very talkative and server was helpful. I recommend the Steak sandwich! it was cooked just how i wanted it and a great sauce on the side!! And good happy hour deals for Miami.

meh. it's okay, but I didn't think it was anything special. We went for lunch one day and practically had the place to ourselves. The food was decent, but not spectacular. I did like the fact that they make their own french fries. (I think)

Great hang out on the beach to just chill and watch some sports. Not the cleanest place in the world (sticky floors and table tops), but got the job done and the drinks are cheap for South Beach!

  • Jennifer S.

I used to drink here all the time. But the vibe has somewhat changed over the past few years. And not to mention its WAY overpriced these days. This isn't a South Beach nightclub, but the prices suggest that there should be a bouncer and a queue full of people! Lower your pint prices!

Playwright. What can I say? Well, even though I've been coming to enjoy some great libations and awesome company at this place for years, I only saw a menu when I came to watch the early NCAA game the other night. Both my friend and I were caught off guard, I supposed because "eating" and "Playwright's" don't really find themselves in the same sentence all too often. Flat screen TVs abound here, so no matter what game you're looking to catch, you can rest assured that it'll be on at Playwright. They even have a big projector screen at the front for the night's "main event." Since it's an Irish pub, beer choices abound. Check out the lists, or just look to the various taps at the bar to help you narrow it down. They also have a full bar, replete with reasonable prices, for those that may be feeling like hitting the sauce a little harder. A year or 2 ago, they took over whatever used to be next door and expanded the bar area, so there's plenty of room for you and your closest friends. This caught me off guard when it first happened - I was trying to find a friend, and then saw her in what I thought was mirror behind the bar. Oops! They'd expanded and she was actually on the other side of the bar, and I was looking over my shoulder and all around behind me like an idiot. Oh well, it's was St. Paddy's Day after all!

This is the first (and best) Irish Pub I found in SoBe. Not only was it across the street from my apartment, but it is spacious, friendly, and has a great selection of beers and ciders. They also have the best food of any Irish pub I've ever seen, so definitely make a point of doing dinner there. The soups are always on point, happy hour specials are great, and the calamari with cherry peppers is a delicious app. Miss this place!

Why, of all the places to go in South Beach would you go to this poorly themed, dark Irish sports bar on Washington? Well, this is the most laid back place in South Beach. Decent beers on draught, friendly bartenders and patrons, big TVs, and a pool table. Playwright is an opportunity to temporarily escape the oversexed giant sacks of silicone and testosterone that pass for people around South Beach, put your guard down, and relax.

This is a great pub. The food is great and the drinks are cold. Unlike other Irish Pubs you never know who is going to stroll in here. Nice respite from South Beach in South Beach.

Pretty reasonable price for beers ($6) and great ambiance. We just had one beer here before my co-worker wanted to move on. The bartenders were cute and very attentive. I would definitely go back again.

We saw the sign for Playwright from the main strip and immediately headed there to escape the cheesefest that is South Beach. As we entered we were hit with a wall of cigarette smoke. *cough* It was sparse with people so we had enough room to walk and sit at the bar. They had pool tables and jukebox. It was an Irish theme on the walls reminded me of a bad version of Ireland a la Disney but it was better than what was out on Ocean Drive. And to top it off they were showing the hockey finals! We had found our place and went back more than once. The bartenders were very friendly and lacking the normal attitude. We will go back again I am sure!

I came in here on a Friday night while on vacation. Thinking, "Oh this should be a fun, affordable bar like most Irish pubs" Nope. One beer and one long island iced tea was $22. Enough said.

The vibe, the drinks, and the service were decent. The food, ehhh, I had mixed feelings. My friends' cheeseburger was amazing, my tuna thing was TERRIBLE. Just terrible. Good lord, and it was not worth the 11 dollars I paid. My bill was also pretty hefty. Two drinks, an appetizer, and a burger for 50 bux? I think not. Next time I'm at the beach, I'll skip this place.

i love this place! this place has times to go if u go like evening time it's dead! I wanted to watch a Premier League game, and that's how i started to go this beautiful place!.. It's great place to spend time food it's better then the other Irish places alcohol is great, ambiance it's great that make u to feel like Irish.. I love this type of places if u like sports bar my suggestion is u're goin' to love this place.

This is a great bar to watch the game at, play some pool and have some good beer. Lots of TV's and they are willing to change the station to whatever game you would like to watch. Food is pretty good too. Check out the half off apps... Low key and nice wood bar makes for a great night without getting too wild. Tip: Jonathan is the best bartender there.

It's a great pub! I went a couple times to watch the world cup games (the US games were always packed!) and went the other day to enjoy some beers and pub grub. The food was great (their potato leek soup is to DIE for) and they have a good selection of beer. I mean, it's not the most unique place I've ever been too, but it's everything I'd expect and want from a good ol' fashioned irish pub.

its one of the few places on the beach that i love....and i love it more on the weekends than i do on the weekdays....the music, the drunks, the crowed in general keeps this place interesting! the only reason i didn't give it a full five stars cause sometimes the servers are nowhere to be found or ignore u purposely hehe but u deal with it cause its a bar and ur prob at that good highpoint of a buzz the people are locals, main-landers (like myself), tourists and random people that might not be able to get labled cause they tend to look lost.....which makes for great entertainment...you can bounce around the main areas or get a group and sit in a huge round booth...the music is luck of the draw but they mix it up to try and please the crowed....pool table, many TVs, cool cathedral decor and the food that iv seen served has always looked good...but iv never actually tired it.... so if ur on the beach looking for a little off the beaten "clubbing" scene path swing threw make a friend stay there or even keep going.....

I'm a sucker for Irish pubs. Although the only thing that makes this place an Irish pub is that it serves food that kind of resembles British Isle fare and they have a decent selection of beers from the same islands. Other than that, it's just a comfortable bar with some Irish memorabilia and lots of wood. But that's okay. I'm still sold. Why? Because the bartender, Michelle, knew what she was talking about. Here's a 25ish young woman from Sweetwater pouring drinks on the Beach that has a command of the product she is serving. Bravo. Didn't eat the food so I can't comment on that.

"The Laid Back Night" Not in the mood to dress up for SoBe and want a laid back night with a group of friends who want to shoot the breeze? Then head to Playwright! There's no cover here. They have booths, tables, and bar seating. It's a great place to go if you're with good company. The waitresses are fast and the service is good; along with there are always entertaining characters there!!! And if you're in the mood for making drunken bets, they have a pool table to facilitate it!

I used to call this my favorite bar! But I used to only go out on the beach.. now I've come to love Brickell. I used to love playwright because whenever I would go I would be the only girl in the place! (Besides some waitresses and bartenders) Sooo that meant lots of free drinks and compliments. If you're looking to meet girls go elsewhere but its a great place to start your night, its usually pretty laid back. The prices could be MUCH better (thats what I want at an Irish Bar) and the food is better at Waxy's right across the street, but I liked the vibe at Playwrights.

Nice people, but not great service. Wifi, and beer specials. Expect nothing more. Nice place for a bunch of beers and escape from the high prices of the beach but stil close enough, for pre party, or post party when you get sick of overpriced crap booze. Matsbaseballtrip.blogspo…

Quite frankly, in say, Chicago this bar would be like every other irish bar-- fairly crowded, playing music that was copyrighted 20 years ago, and friendly people looking to make new friends (or just hang out with their old ones). In short, a great time. In smack dab middle of South Beach, around the corner from places like Mansion, this may be the greatest oasis in the history of the universe. Add the Vegas vibe (i.e. the everyone's a tourist) and you got a killer combination. A must go if you're stuck in SoBe and looking for a place like home (kinda like an American looking for McDonalds abroad).

Stop 3 on our pub crawl... I have never been crazy about this place. I guess it feels like there are more tourists there than locals sometimes. Good beer selection, I can always find a place at the bar. It's good place to go to if you are going with friends to grab a drink and maybe watch a game. But I would not come here by myself to grab a drink.

Didn't expect an Irish pub amidst the clubs on Sobe...no cover charge when I went last night. I suppose that is what drew all the guys in there! Friends had interesting beers, so I take it they have a good selection of beers. Loud music, which made talking to friends and ordering drinks difficult. Girlfriends were complaining about the crappy mixed drinks they got. There's a foosball table, a pool table and a number of TVs...showing sports, of course! Cigarettes sold in a machine for about $5. Typical bar music: bon jovi and sing-alongs. We weren't there for too long, poor ventilation and smoking indoors. Tip-bits: Girls: Use the bathroom by the neon light sign. There was NO line for the girls..first time I saw 15 guys in line! :P And it was amazingly clean!! Two stalls.

One of the best local bars in SOBE . Staff is excellent and the food is very good. Great place to have a beer and watch a game.

HUGE Irish pub in South Beach. A welcome respite and retreat from the uppity clubbing lounge-y scene. Really laid back and a great place to chill/groove/drink with a group of friends. Looks like they have a full bar and TONS of beer selections. I'll be sure to revise my stars when I'm there for longer than a few minutes.

They've worked to make this look like an authentic Irish Pub; Lots of woodwork with Irish and Gaelic designs & carvings, stained glass and other decor. The large wooden bar and authentic-looking tables, chairs and stools all work to complete the image. There are several plasma screens around the place where they show most major sporting events. The menu is on the pricey side and the place does get packed on the weekends, but I usually have a good time each time I come here. I was here when the De La Hoya/Pacquiao fight was on, they were charging a $20 cover to get in and the place was MAD.

What are three things you don't expect to see late on New Year's Eve in an Irish Pub on South Beach? 1. Children 2. Fat toursits eating ceasar salads 3. Empty stools. Come here to see the unexpected

This place is a large pretty generic Irish bar. They have TVs and such to watch sports games. The interior is your typical brown wood that you would expect. The bar food isn't half bad. I've eaten here twice when meeting people here because I was starving. I actually recommend the crab cake sandwich, it was quite good. Beers for $7 a pint is a little steep... I suppose it is South Beach... it's just hard to pay that when I know there are cheaper places within walking distance. Overall it's a pretty decent place. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. I've never been in here and seen it busy.

The Playwright was a great place to eat, drink some beer and watch out home team play football int he snow! The staff was very nice to us the several times we went there over the week we were in town and never forgot us! A great Irish bar!

I have had 1 good experience, 1 medium, and one pretty bad. The good involved lots of alcohol and a large, fun crowd. The medium was the same but a lot less fun the second time around and the third was when I realized that I am paying way too much for a drink at a pretty standard place in Sobe. The Sobe scene can get old pretty quick if you stay withing the touristy places. Thanks to Yelp, I hope to find some good local spots where I would be a little more willing to pay.

Right down the street from my hotel, this was a great place to grab a pint and watch the Arsenal game (FA Cup). We happened by on a night out and decided to pop in for breakfast. I had a fried egg sandwich, it was very good. The potatoes were great and hit the spot after a club night. We stopped by the next day for the game. The bartenders are pretty laid back, but very nice. I had fun razzing him about soccer.

good service, quick bartenders, greasy bar food. they show every game on TV. from CCTV boxing matches to the european league of champions. guinness $7. not the cheapest in town but... they do have a million screens and show good games all the time. rarely a cover charge to get in.

Lots of fun, always pretty busy and open late night. Only problem is the same problem with every other place in So Be... no parking. So bring you walking shoes and have a pint!

Being from Chicago, Irish pubs sprinkle the city like your friendly neighborhood Starbuck's. But when visiting SOBE, it's definitely an unexpected site. That's why it was welcomed shock to my husband and I that we came across Playwright's as we were searching for a place to watch our beloved Chicago Bears play football. As we entered Playwright's, we were overcome with a sense of home. The pub is laidback, a nice relief from the craziness and partying that SOBE has to offer. The service was amazing and friendly, we immediately felt as if we were regulars in the pub rather than the tourists we were. The food menu is standard pub fare, but the beer selection is extensive (be prepared). Definitely a big fan of Playwright's and since the first time we visited the pub in December of 2004, our annual trips to South Florida are never complete without a pint at Playwright's.

  • Good quality irish bar with a great atmosphere, definately a place for celebrating Saint Patricks Day, all round good place for a drink listening to live music or watching the American sports of Baseball among others.

Listen, it is in South Beach, not Dublin, so you have to grade it on the South Florida Irish Pub Curve. However, it is a good place to drink a Guinness, and in South Beach, that is saying something.

Came here in Sept of 09 and experienced the best corned beef and cabbage and shepard's pie of my life. Have had several corned beef meals since being back in CA and nothing compares.... Thanks for ruining corned beef for me (in a good way) and I'll surely be back the next time I'm in Miami Beach! I've tried to immitate the white sauce a few times with no success... This place was the absolute highlight of my weekend stay.

How do you rate an Irish joint? Hmmm the crowd here can be very entertaining when there is lots of drinking involved! Every time I stop in I leave with a story to tell. The food is ok for what it is.. Drinks are made with a nice poor.

Showed up early to watch the BCS Championship game. Plenty of TVs & good food. Drink prices aren't cheap, but I didn't expect they would be. The place was packed for the game & though the game was a blowout, the crowd stayed attentive as much as one would expect (meaning that although their total attention was no longer on the game, no one was discussing soccer on this day). Good place to watch a game, not sure I would go here for much else.

Solid sports pub with a good selection of draft beers, although at $7 bucks a beer makes me miss Manhattan beer prices. A differently appreciated change of pace from the Miami beach bars.

This place used to be a lot better. Drinks are moderately priced and it seems like ttgey have a lot of specials. Crowd is kind of wack but good place to go with a group. You can get a table easily. Regular casual Irish pub...

I would say its usually a good place to chill out after leaving or instead of the dance scene in South Beach. Generally really crowded on the weekends, no cover, got some good beers (Murphy's but no Guiness). Beers are about ~$6,pitcher of bud ~$14. There's a DJ and a pool table, but don't expect to get on the table anytime soon. Pretty fun place to meet people too or to go with a group.

Here's the thing about playwright's, it's on south beach and typically a place people go while clubbing. That being said it's different from virtually every other place on the beach. It's made to seem like a nice Irish style bar that you can easily find in any northern city. People down here like it because it's a change of pace. But if your like me and a fan of the local Irish pubs up north, you will sense that this place is less than genuine. It just seems artificial. Part of this are the people who show up. Most have been clubbing the night away or will be, they're dressed in nice button down shirts, and they just don't look like they belong in an Irish pub. The music is rather cliched, songs that everyone knows, which ignores a major aspect of the norther Irish bar which is GOOD music, not cliched music. Overall, it's better than the clubs, and if I'm on south beach that's where I'll head, but it's just not the real deal.

Hey, it's an Irish pub! What else can I say. I haven't eaten there yet, but it's just the place I sometimes like to escape to from the South Beach life. Location is really good, I need to try the food sometimes.
